| As an author,
a columnist, and a comedian, at just 23 years-old,
Steve Hofstetter is someone to watch.
Hofstetter broke into the humor
world with the irreverent website, “Sports
Jerk of the Week,” which he co-founded with
his brother when he was just 18. After a few months,
Jerk of the Week was already featured by press
in several major cities, as well as USA Today’s
Baseball Weekly. At the one year mark, Jerk of
the Week was profiled in Sports Illustrated.
As an undergraduate at Columbia University, Hofstetter
began writing “Observational Humor”
- a column that started as an e-mail to 20 people.
Hofstetter’s following quickly grew, and
the column is now syndicated in eight states and
boasts a weekly circulation of 65,000.
After taking a year off from school
as the head writer for the New York Yankees’
members-only website, Hofstetter returned to school
and won the prestigious Gollin Prize for outstanding
promise in journalism and media.
Jerk of the Week continued rolling, producing
weekly guest spots on morning radio programs in
Baltimore, St. Louis, and Kalamazoo, as well as
a three-minute segment on CNN and two more features
in Sports Illustrated.
Hofstetter graduated from Columbia
as one of the voices of the Columbia Lions and
a popular columnist for the Columbia Daily Spectator.
Soon after, he accepted a position with Sports
Illustrated for Kids, and released his first book,
“Student Body Shots.”
Hofstetter’s book was reviewed
positively almost 100 times and is currently a
five-star title on Amazon.com. Steve began traveling
to colleges performing stand-up to promote the
book, and also began writing for Maxim and ESPN
Magazines.
While not on the road, Hofstetter
appears regularly at comedy clubs in New York
City, performing at Dangerfield’s, Comedy
Cellar, Standup NY, Gotham Comedy Club, and several
others in his first few months as a comedian.
Hofstetter co-founded and helps run the successful
Comedy Soapbox, a syndicate of comedy rooms in
New York City and Philadelphia.
Hofstetter spends much of his time
performing at colleges, and will headline schools
such as Richmond, Fresno State, and the University
of Maryland this fall. He has recently appeared
on episodes of NBC’s “Ed” and
“Law and Order,” and plans on releasing
his second book in the next few months.
