Funnyman LaVell “Big Vell” Crawford
is quickly climbing the comedic ranks and becoming
one rising comedy star to watch. From his numerous
television appearances and on stage performances,
audiences are becoming increasingly familiar with
LaVell’s giant sized talent.
This past year, LaVell headlined at LAFFAPALOOZA,
America’s longest running longest-running
annual urban comedy festival. “Jamie Foxx
Presents: Laffapalooza” a series of half-hour
laugh-out-loud comedy specials that aired on Showtime.
Last year, Crawford roared through the comedy
scene, becoming a Finalist in the Comedy Central
Laugh Riots standup competition and subsequently
headlining at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival.
Endeared by audiences far and wide, he is no stranger
to comedy clubs and college crowds, having appeared
at such comedy clubs across the country as The
Improv, The Laugh Factory, Carolines on Broadway,
Sir Laffs a Lot and The Comedy Zone.
Lavell has also made the jump to television with
comedic appearances on “Motown Live,”
“Showtime at the A pollo”, “BET’s
ComicView” and “Russell Simmons’
Def Comedy Jam.”
Crawford has appeared on “The Jamie Foxx
Show,” and has appeared in the films Baby’s
Mama Drama, Beverlyhood and Ghetto South Problems.
On stage, he played the scene-stealing Ben in
the hit play Men Cry in the Dark. Crawford is
one of the most popular up-and-coming comedians
in the country.
LaVell also recently appeared on stage with the
critically acclaimed production Men Cry in the
Dark, a stage production based on the novel by
author Michael Baisden. Crawford played the scene-stealing
“Ben.” The play also featured notable
actors such as Richard Roundtree (Shaft), Allen
Payne (New Jack City), Rhona Bennet (Jamie Foxx
Show) and singers Christopher Williams and Monifa.
He recently released his own comedy CD Takin’
a Fat Break.
