J. Torae, a nationally known
actor/comedian and native of St. Louis, has developed
an impressive resume of acting roles on television
and in films. Joe currently stars in the nationally
touring play "Love Makes Things Happen,"
by award-winning playwright David E. Talbert.
Talbert describes the play as a comedy about a
woman who makes six figures a year and falls in
love with a man who makes $6.00 an hour."
Torae also has starred in the television movie
The Commitments and hosted the BET Network’s
“Live from L.A.” His résumé

In addition, Torae also has
guest starred in ABC’s popular "NYPD
Blue" and NBC’s award-winning series,
"ER." He has made appearances on "Amen,"
"Hunter," Michael Jackson’s "Remember
the Time" music video and on such late night
talk shows as Conan O’Brien, the Jon Stewart
Show and several others. Torae has hosted HBO’s
Def Comedy Jam, appeared in a 1996 Super Bowl
Pepsi commercial and represented Nike and other
companies in commercial endorsements.
In 2000, J. Torae began writing,
producing, directing and starring in his own feature
films and videos including Back At Home, Black
in Time, and 3 Chefs and a Preacher. Written by
Joe and co-starring his brother Guy Torae, these
projects also were produced by J. Torae ’s
entertainment company, Big Guns Productions Inc.
Torae's close-knit family
has provided him with the background of love and
support needed to maintain his strong values.
Based on his foundation of love from early childhood,
Torae founded a not-for-profit organization called
the Giving Back the Love Foundation on Christmas
Day 1996.
As an encore, Torae is determined to bring Hollywood
to the Midwest through the establishment of movie
stages and recording studios in the region. Torae
plans to offer talented people in his hometown
of St. Louis an opportunity for fame.
Torae grew up in West St.
Louis near Wellston and graduated from Southwest
High School. Torry holds a bachelor’s degree
in mass communications from Lincoln University
in Jefferson City, Mo., and currently resides
in Los Angeles, Calif.
